Annette Poyner presents a check to Mike Driebe

RFB&D board member Mike Driebe accepts Medtronic's donation from Annette Poyner.

UPLAND, CA - On the second Tuesday of each month, the Upland studio of RFB&D hosts visitors interested in learning more about how RFB&D makes its audiobooks and serves people with print disabilities. Medtronic supports this effort, and on Tuesday, October 9, Annette Poyner from their Santa Ana facility took the opportunity of the Get Acquainted Tour to deliver a check in the amount of $7,000.00. Interested readers can learn more about RFB&D's free one-hour Get Acquainted event here.

Annette's grandfather was blind, and he would listen to recorded books. She shared with us her own passion about improving the health of people and communities throughout the world, and how that complements Medtronic's philanthropy program. Medtronic is passionate about improving the health of people and communities throughout the world, and their philanthropy reflects that passion. They focus their grants and community involvement in the areas where they can make unique and positive contributions. These areas include improving the health of people with chronic diseases, educating future generations of scientific innovators, and enhancing the communities where we live and work.

For 60 years, Recording for the Blind & Dyslexic (RFB&D), a national nonprofit, volunteer organization, has been the leading producer of accessible educational materials for students with disabilities such as visual impairment or dyslexia that make reading standard print difficult or impossible. With titles available in every subject area and grade level from kindergarten through graduate studies, RFB&D’s digitally recorded textbooks are effective learning tools for students challenged by the printed page.

The Inland Empire/Orange County Unit of RFB&D relies on contributions from foundations and individuals to carry out its mission of service in Southern California. Through the generosity and help of our donors, learners throughout Southern California overcome their disabilities and achieve the success they deserve. We applaud Medtronic for helping us enhance the lives of the people we serve.
